Fort Pulaski National Monument

On April 11, 1862 defense strategy changed worldwide when Union rifled cannon first overcame a masonry fortification. Fort Pulaski was the first military assignment for the young 2nd Lt. Robert E. Lee. This remarkably intact example of 19th century military architecture is preserved for future generations by the National Park Service as a reminder of the elusiveness of invincibility. It is a 30-minute drive from Richmond Hill north on I-95 to I-16 East and then to U.S. Hwy 80 East. Call (912) 786-5787 for further details.
